CNAP Financial Awards

Partner with CNAP and take advantage of the many benefits available to SNF employers in California through the CNAP program. You may be eligible for multiple awards depending on your facilities needs and goals, and may apply for multiple awards through one single application.

Applications must be received for each facility independently. 

CNAP offers various financial awards to support workforce development initiatives in Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs). These awards are contingent upon meeting specific criteria and require the submission of supporting documentation. 

  • All CNAP Awardee’s will receive a direct introduction to their local Workforce Investment Board (WIB) for invaluable resources.
  • As a Earn and Learn and/or CUSP Implementation Awardee, you will receive a complimentary one year membership to the National Association of Nursing Assistants (NAHCA) for all facility employees.

*Award cycles will repeat each year through 2027. As your facility becomes eligible for awards, you may apply.

Facility-Based NATP Approval Award

Facilities who are successful in receiving a 2023 or later CDPH Facility-based (or Alternative*) NATP approval notice for Earn and Learn training, will receive a maximum award of $2,000. 20 facilities per year, or 100 facility-based NATP sites over 5 years.

*Alternative: Partnering with an approved CDPH online training programs per AFL 20-89.1

Certified Director of Staff Development (DSD) Award

Facilities with an approved CDPH Facility-based NATP that hires or certifies a second certified Director of Staff Development in 2023 or later will be eligible for a maximum award of $2,000. 20 facilities per year or 100 facilities over 5-years.

Earn-and-Learn Program Award

Facilities that provide Earn and Learn programs in conjunction with a  CDPH approved NATP will receive $2,000 per certified CNA, up to 12 CNAs yearly up to 36 CNAs over 5-years.

1. CDPH approved as a Facility-based NATP

    • 280A form reflecting CDPH approval of a Facility-based NATP (see example) 

2. CDPH approved as a Facility-based – Alternative NATP in contract with an online provider 

    • 280A form reflecting CDPH approval of a Facility-based NATP (see example) 
    • OR CDPH approval letter: Online Alternative Type I or II NATP Application (see example)

3. CDPH approved in partnership with a Community-based NATP:

    • 280A form reflecting Community-based NATP (see example
    • OR CDPH executed and approved 278C (aka: facility declaration of participation in an approved online training program) AND 278SC forms (aka: Option 2 – nurse assistant pre-certification training contract) forms
CUSP Program Implementation (Upskilling) Award

Facilities that participate in the CUSP program will be awarded a maximum award of $2,000 for program implementation. 5 facilities per year or 25 facilities over 5-years. View CUSP Certifications

To participate in CUSP Implementation, all 3 portions of CUSP need to be agreed to and CUSP MOU/registry completed and verified by CNAP.

CUSP Credentialing Award

Facilities that support CNA upskilling through the CUSP program and successfully complete levels II-IV will receive $300 per certification: (150 certifications year 1; 278 certifications year 2; 386 certifications year 3-5)*

* If an existing CNA employee has been on the floor for 18 months and meets the employer eligibility criteria, the CNA may advance through levels II-IV without the incremental 6 months in-between levels. The employer needs to agree to incremental wage increases associated with each level, as determined by the facility. 

CUSP sUPERVISOR AWARD

Facilities that participate in the CUSP program and certify a designated staff licensed nurse to be the supervisor trainer to oversee the CUSP skill competency checks will receive $500 per training course up to 4 courses per facility. 

Clinical Rotation Hosting Award

Facilities certified to host clinical rotations will receive an award of $25 per student, up to 10 students per facility, 25 facilities per year, or 1250 students and 125 sites over 5-years.
